Her grandfather Pat Crowley is a member of the All Blacks, which is New Zealand’s national rugby team. As a flanker, he represented the team in the 1949 tour of South Africa and all four tests of 1950 against the British Lions.

Her WWE debut came on the October 14, 2015 episode of NXT in a losing effort against Nia Jax. In 2016, she adopted her ring name, Dakota Kai, and made her debut using the very name in the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017 where Dakota Kai reached the quarterfinals before being defeated by eventual winner Kairi Sane. Dakota kept on participating in NXT regularly but ended up being a sideline in early 2019 due to an ACL injury. After her recovery, Cheree Georgina Crowley returned to the ring in September and defeated Taynara Conti.

Following the match, she formed a tag team with Tegan Nox, which failed in winning the Women’s Tag Team Championship. During November, Dakota was chosen by team captain Rhea Ripley as part of the NXT invasion angle for Survivor Series. On the War Games pre-show on November 23, Mia got attacked backstage, and later in the program, Rhea replaced Mia with Dakota as her team member.

While fighting Kai attacked her tag team partner, Tegan Nox, turning heel for the first time in her WWE career. Upon her return, in December, Mia revealed that her attacker backstage was her own mate Kai. Obviously, this led to the grudge match between the two with Dakota winning the game, portraying an evil character in the ring.

10. Is Dakota Kai Related To The Rock?:

It’s well known that Dakota Kai is a Kiwi, but you might not know that she’s also half-Samoan.

And as far as famous Samoans go, no one is more famous than The Rock – who she is not related to despite their same passion for wrestling!

As she’s in the most Samoan sport ever and despite the long history of Samoan Superstars, Kai told WWE.com that she’s never felt any pressure to live up to her heritage:

“I never felt any pressure about that. I’ve simply always embraced being ‘afakasi.’ Mum would make sure us kids would grow up with a strong sense of who we are and where we came from. I’ve visited Samoa twice and visited my mum’s home village of Lepea. She would always make traditional Samoan dishes for us, and we would have family get-togethers somewhat regularly. Family is priority within the Samoan community, which means the support system I get from them is amazing”.

11. Dakota Kai Influences:

PC: WWE

Most WWE’s wrestlers are influenced by legends of the past – Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin – but that’s not exclusively the case anymore. Kai told WWE.com that the people who most influenced her in-ring style are actually her contemporaries:

“The main influencers of my in-ring style would have to be Hideo Itami, Finn Bálor and Daniel Bryan. I was watching them since before they were here in WWE and was blown away with the level of skill they consistently showed”.

Pro wrestling sure has changed, women finding inspiration amongst others rather than people from the past or the future is amazing!
